The rising country star gave an unforgettable performance at Stamford's Palace Theatre on May 7th.

You can’t help but smile when you watch Olivia Lane perform. Last fall Lane was named one of the Ten New Country Artists You Need to Know by Rolling Stone, one of the Five Breaking Big Artists by Entertainment Weekly and was selected for Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star national campaign.

Originally from Houston Texas, Lane moved to L.A. where she attended USC as a theater major and also studied songwriting. Now 24 years old, Lane calls Nashville home. Lately she has been focused on writing songs, touring (she’s opened for Kip Moore, Easton Corbin, and Wynonna) and she even hosts a music series called Diva Jam at listening rooms around Nashville.

Her theater background really comes through in her stage presence and energy; she is definitely in her element when the bright lights are shining down on her in front of an audience. That presence combined with her amazing vocal skills (she has some serious pipes!) and her clever songwriting makes for an incredible performance.

Olivia’s set featured lots of original material that demonstrated her skills as a talented storyteller. Her latest single, Make My Own Sunshine (currently at #39 on Billboard’s Country Indicator Chart), was a huge hit with the crowd.

“Country music, everyone has their own definition. For me, it’s a lifestyle and it’s true lyrics. If you’re writing something that’s true to you then that’s country.”
– Olivia Lane

Her set also included a great mix of well placed covers. During her version of These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ Lane came out into the crowd and danced with the audience. Before she covered Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold she said, “This is one of my favorite pop hits – but don’t worry, we countrified it!”

Lane will be releasing her new EP later this summer. We’ll definitely be on the lookout for that!

After the show I caught up with audience member Johanna Mattsson from Greenwich to get her thoughts on Olivia’s performance. Mattson said that Lane “is such a talented artist who brought incredible energy and talent to The Palace. Her positivity is contagious and she is such an inspiration.” Mattson thought that Lane’s stage presence was amazing – “she really connected well with the audience; she danced with us during several of her songs!” Johanna left feeling inspired by Olivia’s energy and her lyrics. “I look forward to following Olivia on her journey and experiencing more of her music!”
