All the yees were hawed as Kacey Musgraves brought her Oh What A World Tour to a sold-out Capitol Theatre In Port Chester, NY.

On January 17th Kacey Musgraves kicked off her run of three sold out New York area shows, with the first at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre followed by two nights at the Beacon Theatre in NYC (January 25th and 26th).

Musgraves is nominated for four GRAMMYs this year, including all-genre Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Golden Hour, as well as Best Country Solo Performance for Butterflies and Best Country Song for Space Cowboy. These nominations follow her Album of the Year win at the 2018 CMA Awards, becoming the first female to win the category in four years and only the sixth female in the show’s 52-year history to do so.

Kacey’s 90 minute set included every track from Golden Hour with the backdrop of her stage set up to resemble the paper fan she holds on the cover of the album. She did pull a couple crowd favorites from her prior albums including Merry Go ‘Round and Follow Your Arrow.

Midway through her set Kacey’s husband Ruston Kelly surprised the audience and joined her on stage for a special performance of To June This Morning. The pair had recorded this song for 2018’s Johnny Cash: Forever Words, a tribute album that combined music with some of Cash’s unreleased poems and other works. To June This Morning was created from a letter that Johnny had written to his wife, June Carter Cash. Check out the video:

Musgraves will hit three of the biggest music festivals this summer including Coachella (becoming the first-ever female country artist to play there), Gov Ball and Bonnaroo.

I have a feeling we may be near the end of seeing Musgraves perform in 2,000-3,000 seat theaters. It shouldn’t be long before she’s headlining her own arena tour. Next stop, Madison Square Garden!
