Kelsea Ballerini performed at Gramercy Theatre in NYC on July 16, 2015. It was her first headlining show in NYC, and given the impressive performance, it is most definitely the first of many more to come. Levi Hummon, who was recently signed by Big Machine, opened the show and was also fantastic.
Kelsea seemed genuinely surprised when the crowd was singing along to ‘Dibs’, her latest single – “You guys already know that song? What is happening??” In addition to performing songs from her debut album “The First Time”, Kelsea also did a few covers including “What Hurts the Most” and “This One’s for the Girls”. She definitely got the crowd going with a mash-up of 90’s hits, including songs by Britney Spears, Chistina Aguilera, N’Sync, and the Backstreet Boys. Kelsea ended her set with her first number one hit, “Love Me Like You Mean It”.
There’s no question that Kelsea is the real deal. Her voice, her presence, her openness and honesty, and the way she connects with the audience is so unique and so needed in the country genre right now. Everyone that I talked to who’s either had the opportunity to meet Kelsea or see her perform live has walked away thinking, ‘we could totally be best friends!’ My only question is, how soon before she’s headlining at Madison Square Garden?
